About Me

Jemima Abayaa Amissah

I am an international development professional passionate about transforming education systems through innovation, equity, and inclusivity. With a background in gender, peace, and security, and a growing interest in instructional technology, I am particularly focused on integrating sexual reproductive health, STEM education, and digital literacy into curricula to empower underserved communities—especially adolescents.

Over the years, I’ve led and supported community development initiatives across Ghana and the U.S., from coordinating coding bootcamps for girls to facilitating peacebuilding workshops and youth leadership training. I bring a people-centered approach to every project, grounded in cultural sensitivity, cross-sector collaboration, and data-informed decision-making.

I am currently in a doctoral research program in instructional technology at Ohio University exploring how sexual reproductive health, digital literacy and educational innovation can be integrated into curricular to advance gender equity and policy reform in global education systems.

Research Interests

My research focuses on the integration of sexual and reproductive health (SRHR), STEM education, and digital literacy into formal curricula to advance gender equity and support policy reform in global education systems.

More broadly, I explore:

  • Gender and technology access in rural and underserved communities
  • Instructional design for inclusive education
  • ICTs for development (ICT4D)
  • Gender-responsive pedagogy in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Culturally relevant integration of SRHR in school systems

I aim to bridge the gap between academic theory and community impact—ensuring that research not only informs policy but also empowers people on the ground.
